ABIM Foundation launches Professionalism in Action grant program
At a time when health care faces increasing pressures – from financial pressures to clinician burnout to rapid technological change – the ABIM Foundation has launched a new grant program to support projects that leverage the values of medical professionalism to address some of health care’s most pressing challenges.
The Professionalism in Action grant program will fund efforts that promote medical professionalism as the practice of individuals, teams, and systems to foster trust, humility, respect, and excellence in service of equitable, compassionate, and humanistic care. Grants will range from $50,000 to $100,000, with a total of $250,000 available, and are expected to support projects over a two-year period.
“We believe that medical professionalism can serve as a steadying force during a time of significant change across health care,” said Jessica Perlo, MPH, Executive Vice President of the ABIM Foundation. “This grant program will support practical ideas that help clinicians, organizations, and communities uphold professional values while responding to the evolving needs of patients and society.”
Funded projects could involve research, implementation, education, or advocacy and may address challenges such as improving patient access to care, strengthening workplace cultures, and navigating the opportunities and risks of emerging technology like artificial intelligence.
Applications are due on May 21, 2026, with funding decisions expected by September 2026.
Organizations interested in applying are welcome to attend one of two informational sessions on April 2 from 1:00-2:00PM ET and April 21 from 2:00-3:00PM ET.
