Who We Are

We advance medical professionalism to build trust and improve care.

Medical professionalism is more than a set of ideals. It’s the lived practice of individuals, teams, and systems acting with humility, respect, and excellence in service of equitable, compassionate, and humanistic care. It’s what justifies the public’s trust in medicine.

Established in 1989 by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), the ABIM Foundation advances this vision by convening leaders, supporting scholarship, and catalyzing efforts that strengthen professionalism across health care. We work to ensure that the values of medicine are reflected in the structures and systems that shape patient care.
