Kimball
Scholarship
In honor of Harry Kimball, MD (President, American Board of Internal Medicine, 1991-2003), the ABIM Foundation established the Kimball Scholarship. This scholarship was designed to bring new perspective to ABIM and advance medical science through the interaction and study of external forces within health care.
The first Kimball Scholar was Barbara Turner, MD, worked with ABIM staff to evaluate and develop tools for subspecialists to use in practice performance assessment, a key component of Maintenance of Certification. 2006 Kimball Scholar, Michael Green, MD, focused on the development and evaluation of an internet-based clinical question portfolio to help diplomates document their life-long learning. Current Kimball Scholar, Hongmai Pham, MD, is working with ABIM staff on a study of the relationship between physician competence and clinical Microsystems in the small office setting.

" Our goal in establishing the Kimball Scholar is to provide research opportunities directly related to the Board's certification processes and products that are conducted by recognized leaders in medical education, health services research, evaluation science, or quality improvement. "
