Christine K. Cassel, MD
President and Chief Executive Officer

Christine K. Cassel, MD, President and CEO of the American Board of Internal Medicine and ABIM Foundation, was previously Dean of the School of Medicine and Vice President for Medical Affairs at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. She is a leading expert in geriatric medicine, medical ethics and quality of care.

Among her many professional leadership positions, Dr. Cassel is past-Chair of the ABIM Board of Directors and ABIM Foundation, served as Chair of the Board of the Greenwall Foundation, which supports work in bioethics; is immediate past-President of the American Federation for Aging Research; and was a member of the Advisory Committee to the Director at the National Institutes of Health. She is a member of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) Governing Council and has served on previous IOM committees responsible for influential reports on quality of care and medical errors, chaired a report on end-of-life care, and co-chaired a recent report on public health. In 1997-98, Dr. Cassel served on the President's Advisory Commission on Consumer Protection and Quality in the Health Care Industry.

Dr. Cassel was formerly Chair of the Department of Geriatrics and Adult Development and Professor of Geriatrics and Medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. During 10 years at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, Dr. Cassel was Chief of the Section of General Internal Medicine, Professor of Geriatrics and Medicine, Founding Director of the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program, and Founding Director of the Center for Health Policy Research.

She has edited and authored a number of books, including Medicare Matters: What Geriatric Medicine Can Teach American Health Care (2005), Ethical Patient Care (2000), Geriatric Medicine (Fourth Edition), A Practical Guide to Aging (1997), Approaching Death (1997), Encyclopedia of Bioethics (1995), Ethical Dimensions in the Health Professions (1993), and Nuclear Weapons and Nuclear War: A Sourcebook for Health Professionals (1984).

Dr. Cassel received her medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She is board certified in internal medicine and geriatric medicine.

Daniel B. Wolfson, MHSA
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

Daniel B.Wolfson is Executive Vice President and COO of the ABIM Foundation. Previously, Mr. Wolfson served for nearly two decades as the founding president and CEO of the Alliance of Community Health Plans (formerly The HMO Group), the nation's leading association of not-for-profit and provider-sponsored health plans. During his tenure, Mr. Wolfson earned national recognition for spearheading the development of the Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set (HEDIS™), convening the RxHealthValue coalition to provide independent information on the pharmaceutical industry, and co-sponsoring with the American College of Physicians the journal Effective Clinical Practice.

Previously, Mr. Wolfson was the Director of Planning and Research at the Fallon Community Health Plan. During that time, he led the product development team that launched the nation's first Medicare risk contract with the Health Care Financing Administration.

Mr. Wolfson received his master's degree in Health Sciences Administration from the University of Michigan, School of Public Health.

Marc D. Feldman, MBA
Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Marc D. Feldman is Senior Vice President and CFO of ABIM and the ABIM Foundation. Mr. Feldman is responsible for providing overall direction for the accounting, tax, insurance, budget, credit, and treasury functions and directs activities associated with the security and investment of the organization's assets and funds. Additionally, he ensures that financial transactions, policies, and procedures meet organization short- and long-term objectives, as well as regulatory requirements.

Mr. Feldman has broad experience in finance, management, marketing, strategic planning, business development, and mergers and acquisitions. Prior to joining ABIM, he was President of Visiting Nurse Service System, Inc., a large, not-for-profit home health agency.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Feldman served as a CFO and CEO at two health maintenance organizations and held various finance, marketing, and business planning and development positions at GlaxoSmithKline.

Mr. Feldman received a master's degree in Finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and currently serves on the Board of the American Academy of Communication in Healthcare (formerly known as the American Academy on Physician and Patient).

Eric S. Holmboe, MD
Senior Vice President for Quality Research and Academic Affairs

Dr. Holmboe is currently Senior Vice President for Quality Research and Academic Affairs at the American Board of Internal Medicine and American Board of Internal Medicine Foundation. He is also Professor Adjunct of Medicine at Yale University. Prior to joining the ABIM in 2004, he was the was Associate Program Director, Yale Primary Care Internal Medicine Residency Program, Director of Student Clinical Assessment, Yale School of Medicine, Director of Faculty Development, Department of Medicine, and Assistant Director for the Yale Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program. Prior to joining Yale in 2000, he served as division chief of General Internal Medicine at the National Naval Medical Center. His research interests include interventions to improve quality of care and methods in the evaluation of clinical competence.

He is a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College and the University of Rochester School of Medicine. He completed his residency and chief residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital, and was a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar at Yale University.

Elizabeth E. Blaylock
Vice President and Director of International Programs

Elizabeth E. Blaylock serves as Vice President and Director of International Programs at the ABIM Foundation. In this newly created position, she will advance the goals and operations of the Foundation and identify opportunities to expand existing Foundation programs internationally.

Ms. Blaylock has more than 15 years experience in management consulting and strategic relations. Most recently, she was senior manager at Center for Applied Research, where she provided strategic planning and organizational design services to clients in the health care and professional services fields. Previously, as engagement manager at McKinsey & Company, she consulted on strategy setting and operational improvement to middle and upper managers in the health care, financial services and telecommunications industries.

Ms. Blaylock earned master's degrees in international relations and public/private management from Yale University.

Ann C. Greiner
Vice President Policy

Ann Greiner, Vice President of Policy for ABIM and the ABIM Foundation, has held leadership positions in health policy, research and communications over the last 15 years. She has working to strategically integrate these functions to increase the effectiveness of leading healthcare organizations, particularly those that are focused on improving quality.

Most recently, Ms. Greiner was Deputy Director, Board on Health Care Services, at the Institute of Medicine (IOM). At the IOM, Ms. Greiner edited three reports in the Quality Chasm series, and organized two national summits. These reports included Health Professions Education: A Bridge to Quality; Fostering Rapid Advances in Healthcare: Learning from System Demonstrations; and The 1st Annual Crossing the Quality Chasm Summit: A Focus on Communities.

Prior to the IOM, Ms. Greiner was the first director of public affairs at The Center for Studying Health System Change (HSC), a policy research group funded in full by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. As part of the senior management team, she helped to shape the organization’s research agenda, publications and website to make them relevant and accessible to policymakers and journalists.

Before joining HSC in early 1998, Ann launched and led NCQA’s communications department and was part of the organization’s first senior management team. At NCQA, Ms. Greiner led the roll out of the first national quality reporting efforts for healthcare which were focused on HMOs, and included accreditation and HEDIS performance measures.

She has also consulted widely over her career, including consultancies with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, Harvard University, the National Quality Forum and other non-profit organizations.

Ms. Greiner received her English degree, cum laude, from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, and a master’s degree in urban planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Lorie Slass
Vice President, Communications

Lorie Slass is Vice President of Communications for ABIM and the ABIM Foundation. She oversees all strategic communication and outreach activities for both organizations. Ms. Slass has more than 15 years of experience in communications and public policy.

Most recently, she was a senior officer at The Pew Charitable Trusts, where she implemented strategies and developed relationships to inform policy makers and the public on critical issues and further the impact of Pew’s work.

Previously, she was Deputy Campaign Manager for Cover the Uninsured Week at The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, where she helped plan and implement a complex public education campaign – the nation’s largest mobilization effort – on behalf of the millions of Americans who lack health care coverage. As director of the Annenberg Public Policy Center’s Washington, D.C. office, Ms. Slass directed media outreach and public affairs activities around various public policy issues.

Ms. Slass earned a master’s degree in Communication from the Annenberg School of Communications at the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s degree from Tulane University. She resides in Elkins Park, PA.
