This grant program will facilitate the development of innovative, emerging strategies to advance one or more principles and commitments of the Physician Charter. We are particularly interested in supporting initiatives that help physicians adhere to the commitment to act as stewards and promote just distribution of finite resources.
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants from health systems/hospitals, academic medical centers and medical groups who are interested in advancing the commitments of the Charter, particularly the just distribution of finite resources, are encouraged to apply. Proposed initiatives must target practicing physicians.
Selection Process:
A selection committee will review and rank the proposals and select the awardees. We will notify all applicants of the outcome of the selection process. Six grants were given out for 2009.
Deliverables:
Each site will be required to write a final report describing the strategies and interventions and what effect they had on professional behavior and quality/safety. Other obligations include willingness to participate in a learning network among grantees through teleconferences and, potentially, on-line tools.
Application:
The deadline for applications was June 1, 2009. Thank you to all applicants for submitting proposals. We plan to announce the grantees in August 2009. Applicants with further questions should contact Amy Cunningham, ABIM Foundation Program Administrator/Analyst, at (215) 606-4123 or acunningham@abim.org. Other funding cycles are likely to be announced in the future.
