On January 19, 2006 the ABIM Foundation convened a group of experts at the Institute of Medicine (IOM) for a meeting focused on the topic of efficiency and efficiency measures in American health care. "Efficient" is one of the six aims for the health care system outlined by the IOM report, Crossing the Quality Chasm. Improving the efficiency of our health care system has become a top priority for many stakeholders as health care costs continue to rise.
