Consumers - Dialogue - ABIM Foundation

Consumers

As consumers demand greater accountability from health care providers, the ABIM Foundation is working to understand how their interest in quality improvement can align most effectively with that of the ABIM Foundation and ABIM.

Consumer Roundtable

The ABIM Foundation held a roundtable in April 2006 to bring leaders from consumer organizations together with ABIM. Several opportunities for collaboration emerged from that discussion; from working together to help consumers better understand how to think about quality, to collaborating to encourage broader physician participation in quality measurement and improvement. The following organizations participated in the event:

  • AARP - John Rother
  • Carol Cronin
  • Center for the Study of Services - Robert Krughoff
  • Citizen Action/Illinois - Brent Adams
  • Consumers Union - Steve Findlay
  • International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers - Steven Sleigh
  • Mothers Against Medical Error - Helen Haskell
  • National Health Council - Myrl Weinberg
  • National Partnership for Women & Families - Debra Ness

" Consumers and doctors both have a compelling interest in improving care; the ABIM Foundation Roundtable helped all of us see how we can turn that interest into action. "

Debra L. Ness, MS
President, National Partnership for Women & Families
