Dr. Wesson is Professor of Medicine and Vice Dean of the Texas A&M College of Medicine as well as Chief Academic Officer, Scott and White, in Temple, Texas.
Dr. Wesson received his undergraduate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine and Baylor College of Medicine. He completed his residency at Baylor College of Medicine, and his Nephrology fellowship at University of Illinois in Chicago.
Dr. Wesson is an officer and/or a member of many professional organizations. He is Chairman of the Board of the American Board of Internal Medicine, on which he has served since 2001. He has been a Councilor for the Southern Society of Clinical Investigation since 2001 and is its immediate Past President. Dr. Wesson is Secretary/Treasurer of American Society of Nephrology and is a member of the Awards Committee of the American Physiological Society. He is also on the Board of Directors Professors of Medicine where he is Chairman of the Diversity Committee and member of APM’s Physician-Scientist Task Force.
Dr. Wesson is a member of the review panel for the NIH External Advisory Committee of the African American Study of Kidney Disease and Hypertension. He has also been an invited guest lecturer to multiple Academic Medical Centers. He has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed scientific papers, several books, and multiple chapters in leading textbooks of Internal Medicine.
