Dr. Popovich is Senior Vice President for Clinical Affairs, Henry Ford Health System, and Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. He first came to Henry Ford Hospital in resident training and served as chief medical resident. Following a fellowship in pulmonary disease and critical care medicine, Dr. Popovich joined the faculty as the Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit. He was Division Head of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care for ten years until 1999 when he began his current position.

From 2005 – 2006, Dr. Popovich served as Chair of the ABIM Board of Directors and he is currently Chair of the ABIM Foundation Board of Trustees. Dr. Popovich has received Mastership in the American College of Physicians (ACP) as well as the Laureate Award from the Michigan Chapter of the ACP. He has been the multiple-year recipient of the Henry Ford Hospital Department of Internal Medicine Award for Academic Excellence in Teaching.

A prolific author, Dr. Popovich has more than 100 publications, abstracts and book chapters to his credit and served as an editorial reviewer for several subspecialty journals. He is also a highly respected lecturer.

He received his medical degree from the University of Michigan. Dr. Popovich is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, and critical care medicine. His research interest is the diagnosis of pulmonary thromboembolism.
