2009 ABIM Foundation Forum: Achieving Equity, Affordability and Quality: The Indispensable Role of Payment Reform
The 2009 ABIM Foundation Forum was held in the midst of heated debate in Washington and around the nation about health care reform. The ABIM Foundation believes this debate offered the health care community an opportunity to better focus the health care system on the goals of equity, affordability and quality, and that reforming how physicians are compensated was a central part of that effort.
At the Forum, more than 140 physician leaders, patient advocates and leaders from nursing, health plans, business and quality organizations gathered to develop a set of Principles for Physician Payment Reform to help drive greater quality, efficiency and accountability in health care.
The Principles for Physician Payment Reform are intended as a guide for policy makers and others in developing and advancing new physician payment models as well as a set of key criteria to use in evaluating the models’ success.
